Today is the birthday of a person of little significance. To celebrate here’s a traditional Christmas carol I arranged for oboe, Bb clarinet, and piano.
Feel free to get out your oboe and play along!

It’s the next door neighbour’s birthday. She turns 29 – so her little daughter tells me. The father’s birthday – so the same little girl tells me – is the day before Christmas Eve. He will be 30. Incidentally I have the same b’day as the mother except I’m 73.
It’s very festive Bruce…I like it.
Happy Birthday Bruce! And to the girls mother….
You wouldn’t like the present I would give you if I was there… You won’t believe this. Remember I was sick last week? The wife started to get sick Saturday so Sunday I gave her a covid test and I took one for the fun of it…YEP…I have it. First time I ever…I got it. I’m over everything bad though. I only went through one bad day. At least I get to work from home this week.
WOW – it’s almost good news Max to have passed through the COVID test. I don’t know if I’ve had it or not – I’ve been through a few lousy days – I currently refuse to pay (here in New Zealand) to get tested. But I suspect at 73 and chronic heart failure they’d be measuring a cough-in (coffin) (P.S. Thanks for the birthday wishes Max. I can’t believe I’m 73. That’s effing old… I’m twice the age of Mozart when he died and he wrote 40 symphonies. I’d quite like to have written 1 !)
I got 8 free tests from the government. It’s about the only thing we got free. What I have had lately… would not have hurt you. This is a Covid lite strain. It was weak as water.
Yea but Mozart didn’t write stories everyday and talked to people all over the world.
Thanks Chel. Yes, I’m still here – I linger like a bad smell… The 11th Dec. will be my last posting for a month or so (unless unforeseen circumstances prevent posting altogether!)
Happy birthday! Sorry I missed it by a few days. I do love the oboe. If I had the fifth grade to do over again, that’s the instrument I would choose to learn.
Is that clarinet one of the pretty ones?

Clarinets all look the same – just come in different sizes!

That was a very pretty composition, BA.
Is it your birthday? If so, I hope it a nice day for you. If not, the same wish to the mystery person.

Well dang, I’ll have to send a Guinness chocolate cake psychically.

I received the cake thanks. It was very light and airy.

And hopefully rich and chocolatey, too. Hic.

Nah. I want a pretty pink one, and you will compose a concerto to suit it. The key can be High G over Whiz.

I shall sing along with it.

Happy birthday, Bruce! And to the little girl’s mother as well. I liked your arrangement, and I do love an oboe, but can’t play one…

Thank you! No oboe means you have to sing!

I was thinking I might have had Covid – I had a very wheezy chest for a week and felt a bit off. Glad you have built up the anti-bodies.

I do hope your enjoy your break.
(And, no pressure, but I’ve encouraged a Christmas carol parody over at my place, whilst I’m technically absent.)

Thank you! I too would learn the oboe if I could start again! I would sit atop a lonely hill and play the oboe all day!
