8 Nocturnes for piano
Once again there is no story today, as we catch up on posting music.
Here are 8 Nocturnes for piano. Appropriately, tomorrow is the Winter Solstice, so a little night music from the Southern Hemisphere is not out of place.

It starts of as something brooding and haunting before becoming something mellow and sweeter before finally ending as a mixture of the two. The first two parts reminded me a little of Philip Glass , the middle bit of Mozart and the ending of Bruce Goodman. Nice stuff. Now I’m off to listen to yesterday’s music post by you.

Gosh Nitin – I am very grateful for your listening and comment! I don’t mean to monopolize such chunks of people’s time!

I think I forgot the seventh Nocturne. I shall listen to it slowly. It’s no bother Bruce. I’d rather spend time listening to music than waste it messaging someone I don’t like on the phone lol.

Night falls, lingers, thickens and continues interminably in those pieces. I absolutely loved Number 3.

Thanks Uma – you had me going back to listen to Number 3!

I think 4 does the most for me the most but….I do like the bold 6th also.

I wrote Number 4 in 1975! and when “Lord of the Rings” advertised for a composer I submitted that and I heard on the grapevine that I got perilously close to being selected – but thank goodness I didn’t because I had no resources!

You should have got selected on the modern one as well. How many have you written?

I’ve only written these 8 nocturnes – but for the LOTR submission I think I submitted half a dozen or so pieces.

How many musical pieces have you written? I would have to guess in the thousands.

I don’t know how many – I wrote a lot in my 30 years teaching – e.g. a musical most years, and I was Head of the Music Department and we had three full orchestras and four choirs. At that time we were the largest music department in the country with 17 music teachers! I would be forever composing and arranging and orchestrating but I never kept any of them! I was too busy!

You mustn’t feel compelled to listen to every thing, Max – even though you are my favourite music commentator/blogger.

I enjoy it Bruce and I appreciate that…I learn a lot listening to them so it’s selfish as well.
