Here are three Etudes for piano. Basically an Etude is an exercise for improving on a specific skill in playing a specific instrument, but people like Chopin managed to turn them into pieces good enough to play in a concert.
Etude 1: Audio HERE, sheet music HERE.
Etude2: Audio HERE, sheet music HERE.
Etude3: Audio HERE, sheet music HERE.
I think I like the middle one best but they are all nice.

Yes – I like the middle one best too, I think.

as I sat there and listened to each tune with my eyes closed, I could picture a piano student practicing these pieces as a way to improve their skillset

Thanks – poor fellow having to practice the piano on these!!!

I liked all three. They are very anarchic and turbulent to listen to, but very interesting.

Thanks, Matthew for the listening and comment. Yes I think you’re right about the turbulence.

You’re welcome. Thanks for presenting them.

So, a recent set of compositions then!

By recent turbulence I presume you mean all the rain we had at the end of last year?

Each of those etudes has a distinct flavour. I marvel at your ability of belting out excellent short stories and musical pieces.

Those are some nice tudes! Mine tend to be a lot more grumpy.

Tudes can get unruly at times.

I listened to these last night…and this morning. I love number 3 because of the pauses…I love pauses…no matter how slight. My favorite in order is 3,1,2… Great job as always Bruce.
I’ve been running one day behind…but today I will catch up!

Thanks for listening as always, Max. My order could possibly be the same as yours, although I might put Number 1 first (sometimes). Occasionally I’d put No. 2 first because it’s based on a Scarlatti (Bach contemporary) sonata and I like Scarlatti even though he’s 400 years old!

If it still moves you…doesn’t matter if it’s a day or 400 years!
Whenever you work pauses in…you have me hooked. A pause can build dynamics and I like that.

I shall throw in the occasional pause. Pierre Boulez – a 20th century French composer (now dead) – gave up writing music altogether as the ultimate composition!
