Royden couldn’t wait for the most horrible year in his life to finish.
“Simply everything that could go wrong has gone wrong this year,” said Royden. “The car was written off. I lost my job. The pandemic sent us into lockdown. The pet budgerigar escaped. Great-aunt Constantia died and left her substantial savings not to us but to the Pamper a Hamster Society.”
“Never mind, Dear,” said Crystal his wife. “A new year is about to begin. We can make a new beginning.”
“I’m looking forward to it,” said Royden.”Things couldn’t get worse. I’ll tidy the backyard for a hope-filled New Year’s Eve celebration!”
New Year’s Eve arrived! They began to celebrate. Royden got hopelessly inebriated and retired early to bed.
It doesn’t sound like the New Year will start off any better. Angry wives and hangovers don’t mix well.

Indeed! Not a promising start!

We do that every New Year’s Eve! What’s wrong with that?

LOL! It’s years since I lasted past 10 pm on New Year’s Eve!

That was anti-climatic. At least I learned a new word.

Was that word “hamster” or “budgerigar”?

😀 The second one.

True? You didn’t know what a budgie was? I’ve never seen a hamster but here budgerigars are all over the place.

I’ve seen pet hamsters. And ‘budgie’ is far easier to say.

I was thinking of retiring early new year’s eve myself. Without the booze, though, as that hampers sleep. I do love that hamsters got all the money, though. They probably celebrated by dancing…

I KNOW I shall go to bed before midnight on NY eve – otherwise I’ll fell rotten for the whole of NY day.

Well…at least Royden didn’t get decapitated or something….so that is a start.

You obviously don’t know who was invited to the party.

Probably a good thing for him, too.

Sounds like my NYE – minus the inebriation!

Happy New Year to you! It’s still only 3.20 in the afternoon here so we’ll see how long I last. The worst thing is the dog being scared by all the fireworks so I’m hoping there won’t be too many.

Happy New Year to you too Andrea. It is just after 6 am here and the day has dawn bright and sunny. Let’s hope it’s a symbol of the coming year!

Exactly how much money is required to pamper a hamster?

I’ve never actually seen a hamster – not a New Zealand pet – but if one turned up it would be hellishly expensive.

Probably not worth the investment.
