Bruce…can you answer a question? I just had a New Zealand blogger tell me it’s Boxing Day picnic…what is that? When I google it….it doesn’t tell me much.
A Boxing Day picnic is going on a picnic on Boxing Day. The picnic is not really customary but Boxing Day is. Boxing Day is the day after Christmas and a public holiday – except this year it falls on a Sunday! It is called Boxing Day because it the old days it was the day to store the boxes for next year that the Christmas presents had come in. These days, only the name survives!
Thank you…Ive heard of “”boxing day” in England…I’ll admit how stupid I am…when I first heard it years ago..I thought it meant boxing…like fighters boxing lol.
You just told me what it really meant….
I’ve just googled it and apparently the bit of putting the boxes away is a load of bulls**t. Apparently it was a day for handing out boxes of stuff to the needy.
That was great Bruce. I loved the spanking merry pace of the piece: I can picture those three Kings cantering on their camels carousing and drinking as they go! Wisdom would come later!
Thanks John! Yes, I thought of the camels too. I wasn’t thinking too much of the drinking and the lack of wisdom – but am delighted given the season that you sought it out!
Very good, Bruce!
