Officer, I assure you that I hadn’t planned on becoming a victim at the bank when I got up this morning. Just because I was the only one to have survived out of the ten people who were in the bank at the time. It’s not my fault the others were shot and I was spared. I’m sorry for the families of the dead people but you must realize that I can’t but help celebrate my lucky escape.
I’ve given you every skerrick of information I have. You kept me at the police station for over five hours. And now I just want to go home. I’m as shocked as anyone about the whole affair. It has frightened the living daylights out of me. I need to go home now and try and relax.
It’s not my fault that Teddy Morgan and the other bank robbers got away. I was simply in the bank to take out some money, and then all hell broke loose. Now can I please leave? You have my address if you need anything else.
What’s that? How did I know his name was Teddy Morgan? Um…
A real slip of the tongue! I think he’ll be at the police station a bit longer…

Out of the frying pan and into the fire you go!
What a wonderful word – skerrick – I have never seen or heard this before, but it’s meaning is immediately clear 🙂

Gosh – it’s interesting the words people know and don’t know. In my useable vocab “skerrick” appears not infrequently! Although I see typing this that WP doesn’t like the word!

hmmm skerrick – (plural skerricks) (now chiefly Australia, New Zealand) A very small amount or portion, particularly used in the negative.

I checked out skerrick, my iPad didn’t have the skerrickest idea about the word. I bet it’s the favourite word of robbers like Teddy Morgan. You can’t of course ask me how did I too know his name.

You’re a natural-born user of the word skerrick, Uma. I had no idea the word would cause such wonderment with the readers. I would use the word every second day!

This might actually work if you’re a little more careful. I wonder if any bank robber has actually tried this (without fumbling, of course) and gotten away with the crime. It’s the stuff of movies though.

Apparently it’s not an uncommon technique.

Bank robbers typically wear nametags, don’t they? Or use personalized license plates on their getaway cars? There are plenty of possible explanations. Or just because a victim recognizes a criminal from a Sunday school class twenty years ago, doesn’t mean the victim was in cahoots with the criminals. Maybe.

Who needs name tags these days when they get let off immediately!
