Fantastic Bruce…nature can inspire great things. I looked the bird up on youtube…the music goes with it great.
A technical question if you don’t mind. You don’t do a long one but what is the technical name for what you did at around :17 ? In my non-existent piano knowledge I have always called it a “roll”…which is not right.
Thanks Max. Technically speaking that thing at around :17 is just a whole lot of notes! It’s not a trill or a mordent. I don’t think what the music does has a name – it just went a bit berserk on the oboe.
There’s an upper mordent and a lower mordent! It’s just quickly a note, then the note above and then the note again. Lower the middle note is down, and upper is up!
Summer is wonderful. I can never remember being so happy or healthy. The garden is wonderful and I’m happy to spend most of my time pottering, reading and doing enough work on my book to prevent the project from dying on the vine.
Sounds marvellous. I am still preparing the garden for winter even though we’re only days until the solstice. Things for me are a bit slower these days! But life is good enough!
I can see their cousins, the Willy Wagtails, flittering around in your music.

Twist and Shout might have been better!

That was a fun little piece and really goes well with your description of the birds yesterday.

Thank you Herb. I enjoyed writing it – although it took me ages!

That is a soulful piece, Bruce. Why did I hear a touch of melancholy?

The oboe nearly always sounds sad – which is why I kind of like it! To be truthful, I named the piece AFTER I’d written it!

Ok! So a “roll” is as good of a name as any! Now I’m going to look up mordent.
A great piece Bruce.

Ok I get it…I looked up a video example…I get it. Well you are a wealth of knowledge tonight…now I know what a mordent is.

Thanks Simon. Trust your summer is going well. Here we are preparing to celebrate coming-up midwinter with a fish feast!

I can picture both the fluttering of birds, or a formal dance with fans.

I never thought of a fan dance but that would be great!
