Helene and Eleanor were neighbours. Helene was a keen gardener; very keen indeed! Eleanor didn’t know a great deal about gardening but had a kindly disposition.
When Helene went away for a week Eleanor weeded Helene’s garden.
Oh no! My youngest son once “weeded” all of the mums I had just planted. He was trying to be helpful, so it was hard to be mad. It was also hard to be grateful.
I was sent out by my teacher (single teacher country school) to weed the garden and pulled everything out! They were broad beans so in the long run the whole district was grateful!
When Helene comes back she will have no plants left…and no love for Eleanor.

Is that the Eleanor that’s 100% heart and 0% brains?

She’s as pretty as a flower and as thick as a vegie.

Like in a Chekhov play: with a gunshot.

I like how you have lit up the fuse and left the rest to the reader’s imagination.

That sums it up perfectly!

But Eleanor does know a dandelion from a dahlia, so it all ended happily ever after!

And dandelions can be rather pretty in fact!
