Arnie’s teacher set the class a creative writing assignment: Write a four page story about writing a story. Here is Arnie’s effort:

(This went on for four pages. The teacher was unimpressed. In the long run it didn’t matter because Arnie was expelled from school for not having his main character wear a mask).
It’s like those mirrors that show the reflections of your reflections.

I like the mirrors best that make me look thin.

I’ve yet to find one that does that for me. It must be nice.

My parents had a bathroom that had two mirrors facing each other. I spent way too much time in there when I was a kid.

A hint of greatness in this story. Reminds of something the great Jack Torrance would write.

I will admit I’ve never read a Stephen King – I don’t cope with scary!

To be totally honest, neither have I.

If only I could lay hand on a mask I’d write a comment.

Just don’t chew on the end of your pencil – you never know who’s been using it.

Arnie should have known better. Expulsion’s too good for him.

These days expulsion is possibly a badge of courage.

I think Arnie should have got an A for an effort…he is one step away from being a psychopath.
You don’t like King? I do like his novel IT.

I don’t like scary much. I’ve been known to scream aloud during the opening credits of some movies!

I’ve only read one Stephen King novel, The Green Mile. It’s more magical realism than horror. Pretty good, and significantly shorter than most of his novels, which was a big selling point for me.

Yes – size of a book these days is a contributing factor in choosing to read it (as is the size of the print!)

Arnie is pretty clever. I’d have given him an A.
