Barbara had an expansive lawn. She didn’t know much about gardening or plants or trees and stuff, but she thought, “This sprawling lawn needs a tree”.
It was a long dry summer. The lawn was parched. Nonetheless Barbara decided to plant. Should she perhaps plant an oak tree? Or maybe an elm? Perhaps a maple? Or a walnut? A walnut it was! It would provide some shade, and she would get nuts off it as well. Off she went and bought a walnut tree, from the walnut tree shop.
Little did she know that in eighty years’ time a branch of the walnut would crash to the ground and kill three children and their grandmother.
Every evening, during the arid, dry summer, Barbara would dutifully fill a watering can and water her tree. Fate used her devotion as an act of murderous intent.

How inconsiderate – she should have thought about that in the first place – murderer!

That killing of three children and their grandmother was certainly not Barbara’s murderous intent. She encouraged life by watering the tree. Do we really need to assign blame for everything that happens?

It was intended to be an anti-PC story! Modern trendy burnt-out lefties seem to want to assign blame to everyone who won’t espouse their opinions.

You’ve got their number, for sure.
There’s a certain upset and blindness that happens among those who consider themselves educated or “intellectual” (but whose opinions are mainly received opinions from particular news outlets) who, because of their impotence to change what is “wrong” in the world, flap their gums and think they’ve accomplished something.

Que Sera, Sera ! (I have an almond tree which the landlords insist is an apricot. I’ve given up – I told them, once again this year there were no apricots!)

And of course we cannot presume to know the intricacies of Fate! I was more concerned that Barbara would live long enough to harvest some walnuts from her tree…………. and in the end surely it is the fault of the Walnut Tree Shop for selling an obviously defective walnut tree to Barbara in the first place. They deserve to be shut down!!

I agree! The tree sellers sound a bit nuts.

The fault lies in the authorities who allowed Barbara to water her tree during that summer. She should have been banned

These water bans are caused by drips in the town council.
