Of course. My cat Lulu decides she wants some snoozy lap time just as I’ve settled into my rocker-recliner chair and opened my laptop. She will sometimes protest by walking nonchalantly across the keys….this is disconcerting, but not as frightening as when she walks on the piano keys on the basest of base notes when I am nearly asleep, in the middle of the night….

Naughty Lulu! Pussy Cat will never step onto the computer keyboard or the piano keyboard (although she often sleeps on top of the piano). At night it’s the office chair which has to have a cushion placed on it else the meowing of complaint goes on all night.

You know, when that happens, I usually do close the keyboard, unless there’s something pressing to do on the computer.. and most things are not more pressing than a bit of lovely pats for my cat. The midnight piano notes—something like the Song of the Volga Boatmen—are something else again…

Pussycat Pussycat where have you been?
I’ve been up to Maine to visit a poet.
Pussycat Pussycat did you say a hello?
No, but I frightened a little mouse under her piano. 😦 😦 (Sorry – pretty pathetic!)

See – it’s not the cat! It’s the jolly Russians. (A friend of mine inherited her uncle’s grand piano when he died and almost every night she hears him playing Mozart on the piano. I asked if she got scared, but she said it was rather nice!)

Eek – you have found me out! Originally (oh yes, I cheated) the music was for a song about children sitting on a pumpkin trying to hatch out an elephant… “There’s nothing more an egg likes than being sat on”.
