859. The Pony Club Sandwich

Connie’s mother was a nasty piece of work, but a fabulous cook. She detested the fact that her estranged husband, Connie’s father, had given Connie a pony for Christmas. And now the field, where she used to keep one or two goats (for catering purposes), was used entirely to feed the pony.

Nonetheless, Connie’s mother accepted the invitation to cater for the local Pony Club’s Annual Feast. It paid well. Connie’s mother did it for the money, which was more than satisfactory.
At the feast, Connie was able to advertise. Has anyone seen my missing pony? It disappeared about a week ago.

The sadness of the occasion was made up for by the catering. The hamburgers were especially delicious. The hamburger was designed especially for the occasion. Connie’s mother called it The Pony Club Sandwich.

Yes – I recall that. Here, if you look hard enough, you will find goat along with cow, sheep, pig, and chicken. But in Quebec: rabbit, pheasant, quail, horse, ostrich, deer… The other day we were given a hare and made pâté de lièvre – no one, other than ourselves, will even try it!

Connie’s mother is chopped liver in my books, not that I object to eating lots of different kinds of meat (see Flipper pie above). Divorce is always hardest on the pets. A delightful gruesome “tail”, Bruce.

Nope…you got it right. Chloë is my dog. She came from a kill shelter in West Virginia with that name, and we didn’t dare to change it, since she had enough psychological problems to worry about. Phoebe must be the name of some other dog you know.
I’m glad you are finally having your summer weather….if you like heat. (which I don’t). But I don’t like bone chilling cold, either, and we are in a deep, deep freeze just now.

I like great heat only if I have a pool (which I don’t) and a beautiful body (which I…) You’re right – Phoebe and Zoe were dogs of a Welsh couple “up the road” when I lived in South Auckland.

Horse meat is supposed to be tasty – I know that it was eaten a lot during WWII because all the beef was sent to our military. But I can NOT eat it – horses just seem to sentient and emotional.

Well, TG (or whoever) for that. I’ll just take my eraser to the will and then go have a look. (I find that writing my will in pencil, or at least the names, has been such a boon. No expensive re-writes when I change my mind.)
