Awards 5 and 6: A six hundred and forty-nine day Streak plus three

© Bruce Goodman 22 July 2015

Award 5: I have a propensity to enjoy my own company more than enjoy the company of other people. I want a lonely house with sprawling lawns and weeping willows leading to a lake with floating swans. I would like gardens full of flowers and vegetables, and always sunshine, and no visitors to disturb my reclusivity.

That’s why I’m delighted with this non-award which I think is from WordPress. It appeared out of nowhere in my viewing column on my thingy. It says “You’ve posted 649 days in a row! Keep up the good work!” and comes with a badge. Why 649 is to be celebrated I have no idea, but I shall have a drink on it nonetheless, and another, and then Streak quickly around the house. So thanks to whoever.

Award 6: Not an award as such but there is one thing I would dearly love to have been nominated for, but haven’t been specifically, and that’s Three Days – Three Quotations. But the nominator said (paraphrased) “if you wanna do it, do it”, so I shall. The nominator was The Contented Crafter. Pauline (The Contented Crafter) is one of those extraordinary supportive bloggers with ever a kind and encouraging and insightful word. And she lives in Dunedin, New Zealand, so she also deserves our consoling support!

Another thing about this Three Days – Three Quotations is that all rules seem to have gone out the window, which suits my current state of solipsism, so I don’t feel the need to nominate, and I’m going to post all three quotations at once – just to be singular. The first quotation is by me and the second and third by Hilaire Belloc.

Quotation 1:

If more people generously donated their organs I’d still be alive today.

Quotation 2:

When I am gone
Let it be said:
His sins were scarlet,
But his books were read.

Quotation 3:

Of all fatiguing, futile, empty trades, the worst, I suppose, is writing about writing.

Well, your first quotation just answered my question posed on your previous post……. Congrats on the award thingy. It’s nice that someone noticed I suppose. Thank you for your consoling support, my puppy, cat and I are grateful for all acknowledgements of our daily duress. I would also note that your opening paragraph could have been written by me [and probably has been at different times in different posts]. Which I find a tad scary!

Great quotes, especially that first one!

Love the last quote most. How true it is … so many blogs out there telling the rest of us how to do it. BORING!
I think congratulations for 649 consecutive postings is well deserved – amazing dedication – well done!

I find the Virtual Village (I abhor the word blogosphere, if indeed that is a word) is full of people like you; it’s so lovely to make contact when we feel like it and be solitary when we don’t.

As to your first quote: where are you planning to put all those organs? I figure I would only need one, as it would not be very practical to play more than one at the same time. Although I did see one on the news the other day that a man had built in his basement that was so impressive it’s a good thing I hadn’t just won the lottery after all . . . no one in his family had room for it and they were looking for someone to give it a home. Not that I play much, but I do love to fool around on musical instruments, given half a chance.

Your dream home sounds great, but I must warn you . . . if you get up one morning planning to streak down to the pond for your morning ablutions and find that darling hand pump is gone, you will have a fair idea who took it (but you’ll never find it . . . hahaha) I want one just like that outdoors on my own dream property and the smaller version in fire engine red in my dream kitchen . . .

I wonder if Hilaire Belloc is the source of the word ‘hilarious’ . . . I like Quote Two, but have to disagree with Quote Three: to me a worse trade would be talking about talking, for then others would have to hear it all . . .

Thanks, and congratulations on your Streaks . . .

Well, that is the biggest response I’ve ever had! (And I’m heading for 70). The photo of the lake with the pump was where I lived in rural Quebec for a couple of years. Idyllic! Streaking has left me exhausted – so must sign off! …
