Maggie was only three. She had never seen a skink before. When she went to catch it, the skink’s tail came off. The skink’s tail would grow back, but how was Maggie to know that?
Anyway, Maggie enjoyed eating the tail. Yuk!
After that, she went inside and drank a nice saucer of cream on the floor next to the fridge.
That was a relief – reading the last sentence. Another happy ending 🙂

I agree the last sentence was a relief. The word “skink” was unfamiliar to me…most of the lizardy things I know about have other names….thanks for a good new word, quite rhyme-able!

I think “skink” would be a good Ogden Nash word!

Indeed it would, along with “skank” and “skunk”!

Ha ha! My dog used to like catching/trying to catch blue tongue lizards (I assume a near relative of the NZ skink)

LOL! I see (via a quick Google) that blue tongue lizards are among the “largest species of skink” – so I guess your dog and my cat have similar tastes!

Goodness me. Next time I see a blue tongue lizard I’ll think of that!

I was disappointed that Maggie was a cat. Surely i’m not the only one?

Ah! But who said it was the cat? Perhaps it was the naughty 3-year-old on hands and knees drinking the cat’s milk?

That’s what I thought!

You’ll just have to get up earlier! I’ve changed my posting time to 7 am NZ time. Before that it was always American time and I had no clue what time it really was!

I was about to lose my cookies (ugh – a skink’s tail!!) until I realized Maggie was a cat! I’m not sure why I find it more acceptable that the cat ate the tail rather than a little girl, but I do. Whew!

Perhaps the little child preferred to eat slugs!

No, I don’t eat that skink anymore!

But do you still drink cream out of a saucer?
