23. The Bicycle

Josie was a solo mom with two small boys. Ted was the eldest. He was six. Sam was three.

Christmas was coming up and Josie didn’t have very much money. She knew that Ted wanted a bicycle desperately. So for weeks she didn’t eat properly. The boys had healthy food, and they didn’t notice that mom almost starved her way to the price of a bicycle.

But she saved. And saved.

And she bought the bike. And on Christmas Day!…

“It’s not the one I wanted”, screamed Ted, breaking into tears. “I hate you.”

I delight in having my dull life coloured by your intelligent perceptions, your wit, and your vivacity.
